East open

As title says the east is open this weekend , sat and sun 7am til 6pm lower level only and access is via the side gate beside the café.
Anglers only please. The wall will be open to bay 55 possibly to 60 on Sunday.

Please please please stay off the upper level. If the contractor stuff gets medalled with we will lose access to the east at weekends.

West is open to the tower block, extension is closed as there is still work to be done.
Fresh black & ragworm in the shop which is open 8-5pm today and Saturday, sun 8-4pm.

dust of your squid jigs as the 1st catch has been confirmed and there are herring & mackerel about as well as plaice sole and rays.
Weather looking ok for the weekend although it may feel chilly in the sunshine as the breeze is from the NE. Looking like a bump in the decent weather next week @ Wednesday so will keep an eye on that as it may cause an issue with opening towards next weekend.
Thats it for today , tight lines & good luck to those that are out

squidwards

Just a quickie now that we have access to the east wall at the weekend, Robin Howard landed his first squid of the year just off the marina which tallies up with earlier signs that they may be there. Plaice atm seem a bit skinny, be it the tide or time of the season I dont know but Id usually expect a little better than is about… or maybe its the anglers :).
Sole signs if there is some colour in the water either side of the marina perhaps spring has finally sprung on the weekend that the clocks go forwards.
Tight lines all

Weekend access

that good news, Dave has been busy jet washing and we have been given permission to open the east wall this weekend 26/27th March.
Work will continue on the east during the week so what access if any has still to be determined as it stands ……

BOTH WALLS WILL BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND 26/27TH from 7am to 6pm

round up Monday

Here we are again …… were masters of the univ…. oopps wrong song book , sorry about that was almost getting carried away …. or should be some think !
So whats happening ?, wall wise repairs are still ongoing but its being hinted there may be something for the weekend in the offering …. more on that in a day or two but defo watch this space for some weekend news.
On the fishy front rumour of the occasional mackerel persist, i suspect mostly for the boats but its not unusual for one or two lurking about.
Plaice and whiting the mainstay for most and a few flounders usually after rain with the rivers flushing out a little i suspect. Not heard of much in the way of sole & sorta expect them, likewise squid egg evidence is about so may be worth dusting off the squid jigs and checking that the drop nets are all in order.

west wall open every day that the weather allows, work progressing on the east , may have some more news nearer the weekend 🙂

Morning John

Morning John , was nice to catch up over the weekend :),
west wall should be open all week(7.30 to 5.30pm) unless some sudden issue arises. Weather looks like it will play nice for at least 7days so work will be able to continue on the east.
As stated the EAST IS SHUT for repairs until the end of the month at least , we have contractors on the upper level until at least the end of march and dave in his spare time is jet washing the east so that wires can be repaired. The man went up the wall to try and do the wire work and it was far to slippery to do the work safely so its a case of jet wash then fix the wires. Thankfully no posts were smashed out. With luck a new white gate will be installed while work is on going on the upper level but I cant confirm that.

I dont have any catch reports from the wall and tbh the info from the banjo area list all a bit sketchy at the moment other than plaice.

until next time …

west wall was open

As the title hints the west wall has been open since Saturday just gone but, due to impending winds the west is expected to be closed WED/THURS/ and Friday , As things stand no decision made about the weekend but , if there is no change I expect the west to be shut until the winds settle.
East wall has repairs and jet washing when the contractors are not using the hoses, (one tap used by all) and is expected to stay shut throughout March
I dont have any catch reports at all for the last few days but it seems the banjo has been quite busy so i guess there must be a fair few flatties about , I will try hunt some reports so I can put some info up but been a tad preoccupied with my up n down health … I will verbally chase up the wardens for some info in the next couple of days.

it’s good news week

Hmm i’m sure there is a song in that there title so where to start….

West wall

dave is nearly finished jet washing the main part of the west wall(ext to be done later)
East wall

We have contractors working on the upper walk ways for the next month but we do have access to try and start repairs on the east which are quite extensive and cant as yet give a time scale for how long this will take.

We have large 1/2 ton sizes of concrete that need breaking up and removing, at least 21 wires not only need repairing/replacing but new fixture points need doing on many as the red “T” bars have been smashed away, thus new securing points on uncracked wall are needed and there are as I understand it(may be wrong) no wires left in stock after the last round of repairs.(delivery time ..no idea)

We also have various pot holes and cracks that need sorting or making safe as well as jet washing so quite extensive repairs unlike the west wall.

BAIT

yes we have fresh ragworm and fresh black in shop , (get in there folks)

I did say good news week didnt i 🙂 weeeellllllllll
. .watch this space is the phrase of the day because
. . .Dave is hoping to announce some even better news V V soon possibly as early as tomorrow evening.

The one downer .. we dont have an eta or any further news as to re starting or even if we will be opening at night at the moment, but thats not to rule it out at a future day so…….

Hopefully this bit of an update should keep people going for a little longer as they await news about when we have all the fixes done
till next time
adieu, au revoir, bon chance and all that stuff
till next time , over n out

mon 28 feb

Is it Spring or has spring sprung ?

Mon 28th feb oh look , its pinch punch day tomorrow ! Both walls closed all week unless im told differently.
Dave is hoping to get going on the west with the jet washer as soon as work and time allows him. Contractors start on the east today for about a month, at time of typing all i know is they are working on the upper level and vehicle access is needed.

They will be asked somewhen as to if the shop can access the lower section via the side gate to get some of the repairs and concrete debris moved, when that happens we will gradually get a clearer picture on how long it will take to get the east back into some useable state.

Yes the weather is lovely , that doesn’t automatically mean the walls are open or safe to go on. All updates will be posted here or on the group facebook page. If you hear the walls are open , please check and get it confirmed here/on facebook or with dave.
Tons of rumours circulate, just because its posted online doesnt always make it real.

Tight lines if you have the chance to have a dangle today , it looks unusually nice out there today. F

wall check done

Well here we are after the storm that was after the storm or summat like theat. Dave has managed to get up onto both walls to get checks and assess the damage expected. so lets start with the
WEST WALL , not counting the extension the west has amazingly got off lightly and will probably be the fastest back into an opening condition. The usual storm debris chucked up from heck knows where when storms happen so a minor tidy up and a case of get the jet washer out on what needs doing (half done pre storm), an issue with old hoses has been sorted with new hose on route so if the weather allows things may get sorted fairly quickly and opened (we shall see)

Over on the EAST WALL, things could have been much worse than they are but there is a fair old bit that’s taken a bashing.
The 3rd white gate at 29 is for want of a better term departed. Its been well mashed as has the “cage/gate” 1 bay from the white gate at 29.
We are lucky that no red posts have been smashed but with weakened fittings and similar to the redTbars cable pins currently 21 of the wires have been ripped out & much more poor weather will see a few more joining those already lost. Some very large chunks and part slabs of concrete that make up the step terracing have come away doing their own form of damage so repairs there will take time.
On top of all the listed damage we have contract work over due to start working on the upper levels of the east as soon as they can safely get up there (prob starting next week)which means a chat with them once they begin about having access to the lower level to do a clean up and begin repair work. for obvious reasons we cant say how long things will take to get the east in order as access is still to be worked out so as not to mess with the contracted work going ahead.

Dave is trying to source some fresh black but struggling as so few diggers have chanced the beaches. Rag worm he is hopeful to have thurs or fri
