BRIGHTON MARINA FISHING for the East and West breakwaters

There’s a plaice for me

Easter monday round up in reverse order, a cold northerly wind carrying a wind chill factor of dayamnnn… very slow start on the walls today and still quiet at Mid day.

Easter Sunday was very busy, next to no winds and very sunny, yup the marina at its busiest… get there early or struggle to get a spot… pointless arriving late then complaining about how busy it is .. erm its sunny , every one is off of coures it will be busy !
The fishing was good on the east wall with the best of it coming after the high tide. A couple of small rays were reported, a few whiting and other bits n bobs down the side. The west recorded squid defo to farmer george but no other info from the west… &
didnt get any word if mackerel about all weekend.

Easter Sat & good friday were again busy … bank holidays … arrive early !
catch wise much the same as the Sunday was with the best just after the high tide & dropping away.

Looking like no issues ahead in the next week as far as thr weather is concerned so… open every day this week, temps somewhat cooler than last week.

thurs 1st update

Not a rocking day on the walls , a few mackerel came out over high water on the west with conditions somewhat lumpy over the high tide. A strong north wind made things challenging and chilly. No reports of squid thurs but a decent tick over of plaice , pout and whiting.
Winds staying mostly northerly all week until next thurs when there is a westerly lump up for most of that day & possible close of the west if what is showing on the charts happens. Sunday morning looks to be the best of the conditions but overall the water on the east should be flattish to produce some decent fish.

spring has sprung

So both walls are fully open (subject to poor weather closing them), we have seen some decent plaice on both walls with the best on the east , the first recorded squid fell to Mike King I believe on the west wall yesterday (wed). mackerel in 1’s and 2’s also logged. The dreaded spiders have been seen on a couple of the local beaches! surprisingly IMO as water temps are quite low still im told.
Whiting & pout still about in numbers & one or 2 early rays had on the walls and inshore from private boats. All in all things are looking quite good.
The wardens are maintaining space & distancing on the walls that are currently quieter than have been expected but no doubt that will pick up soon. To ensure bays meet the gov standards we are only allowing a max of 4 sat in one bay , this allows for anglers to safety pass through to empty bays.

finally we open the walls

As of Tuesday morning 30th March The marina walls will fully open. Initially daylight hours every day (subject to bad weather) at aprox 6am . close initially 7pm

Night fishing will be reviewed earliest 12th April depending on government covid changes and general conditions.

Visitors are remined the rule of 6 will mean a maximum of 4 people staying in one bay, this allows for 2 to pass through to higher bays & complies with the rule of 6. Naturally all other covid restrictions current will apply also (distancing etc)

Both walls are fully open, Premier will have the dredging hose out around 11am on Tuesday, this may disrupt access to the east so delays should be expected while work is carried out there.

WE ARE OPENING

The walls will open on Saturday and Sunday.. East and west from 8.30am and close at 6pm further updates to follow
West to the tower will open
East to bay 30, above that it is being worked op so may not be ready to open.

Anglers are reminded that throughout April You should all stay local and not travel distances (many say 7-10 miles is sensible limit) to fish.
Sussex police are stopping cars throughout the county(250 or so fines issued last weekend) and number plate tech is being used.
Check the home page or facebook group for shop opening times.

its been a while !

So, It seems a long time since any updates what with the Lockdown situation and a winter of blows hitting the marina walls .
Is there any new you may ask , well, yes there is.

Plaice are now showing along the coast with some reasonable sizes coming out between Seaford Brighton and Worthing.

Currently the walls still remain close and anglers are advised that they should keep to their local areas while fishing.

How are the walls ? Jet washing is coming along nicely and both walls will soon be got ready to open to the public once covid regulations relax somewhat. Both walls will be fully in use this year once they open.

Tacklebox will now open daily, initially

Mon to Thur 9am til 1pm

Fri/sat/sun 9 til 4pm

herring and mackies in dec :)

So we hit december & for the st time in years both walls are open (today excepted) yup you are seeing it right , dave has pulled a miracle & the west is open to the tower block & east definitely to the gate at 27 and sometimes to bay 39 when conditions are suitable.

Currently no night fishing (all night) so walls normally this winter will be 8am to 6pm ish but duty warden has leaway to leave open an hour or so longer.
We do arrange some late night sessions that run ATM until 2am the following morning then close so as not to make it seem we are encouraging people to stay out fully over night or sleep away from home(covid rule changes )

So the catch reports , 2 weeks now we have seen herring , small shoals or mixed in with gar and mackerel , yup fish shoals in winter. The herring often are fleeting and are in & out in 15-20 mins close to the high water marks. As said , decent numbers of gar & mackerel skipping about to keep the interest also
Bass are now catch and release so please inform anyone you meet of this, there are still bass to be had on the walls and inshore in generl , The lure boats in brighton have been having a superb couple of weeks on the bass & now also getting decent squid in the lures & jigs ,there have even been cod takes inshore on these boats so go look up
Iain Barron07739732332 (brighton lure boat) if u fancy a lure session that will keep you busy.
Plaice sprats pollack gobies whiting(pout & channel) and congers all still to be had on the walls when the weather is settled, worth a shout.

monday not sunday

So the week starts with some decent bass on both walls this morning, herring shoaling pre tide, mackerel and plenty of gar in a shoal also… one or two plaice reported also…

The weekend saw mixed results with a few bass of the 5-6lb mark & quite a few 1-2lb schoolies taken on lures also… mackerel & gar seemed the story of the weekend with some plaice to be found out on the sand.

Walls open 8-6pm Mon to wed with possible close on thursday (keep an eye on the home page)if the wind does pick up , currently getting very changeable forecasts , fri to mon looks fine for both walls being open during the day… any late openings after 6pm will be posted on the facebook group and to the homepage here

seems a long time ago that….

I added a post here. Unusually for late november we still have both walls open… usually east 8am & west 9am until six ish depending on numbers & how the duty warden calls it, that said friday & sat this week the walls will both stay open until 2am to allow fishing over the late tide. Hopefully if this is successfull we can add a few more dates for extended sessions.

Catches you ask ?, well plenty of whiting some of decent size, pollack while smaller than the wrecks can be had & are quite tasty, a few mackerel still to be had on baits & herring have been showing near the higher tided ,sabiki feathers best bet for them. Still some late season bass to be had prior to Decembers catch and release, if the laws dont change in Dec current laws for bass stay in place.
Squid ? yes , some, not the usually decent run though as the weather has been very disruptive but dont be ready to write of the chance to catch one or two just yet. There are still plaice & flounder about & no doubt some sole to be had also so things are still quite varied
