BRIGHTON MARINA FISHING for the East and West breakwaters

BRIGHTON MARINA FISHING for the East and West breakwaters

little to add

As the title says, little to add and little change. Shop/Dave still waiting on the new (ordered) jet washer to be delivered. Both walls somewhat dangerous with algae build up ,that said some still try risking their necks by climbing closed gates to “have a go and then wonder why security escort them off while taking details of car reg and ID’s !.
Seems locally like a quiet start to the new year with little being reported catch wise. More colds and winter bugs than flounder and whiting.
Local angler group LISA (check the web page for links>>
https://thetackleboxbrighton.com/l-i-s-a/) are planning some local meets for the year including hopefully the SQUID comp roughly end of April into May on the marina , details to be posted nearer the time. Also linked to LISA group is the line recycling project who are working now with many beach clean groups & getting Pipe bins for line collection located along many of the Sussex beaches(this has now spread to devon as well) and many inland venues are joining the scheme also. Please save any old line & discards, most tackle shops in Sussex have collection points and there are 3 on the marina as well.
Bass rules were confirmed in Dec for the UK to stay the same as in the EU so no change from last year and currently is catch and release.

WALL STATE AND UPDATE info

As most are aware now the marina walls are closed until we can get them into a safe fishable condition. The algae has run riot with the mild weather and while dave was jet washing in Oct/Nov the old jetwasher simply died of shock I am told.
A new machine(yes daves forked out! ) has been ordered and delivery expected within the next 10 days .. ETA was this weekend but usual “delivery” delay noises form the suppliers!.

Once we get the jet washer work will begin on the west first for a change , Why you ask? well, dave has been working last over there so the build up on some of it should be lese sever than the likes of the extension. Hopefully the end of Jan will be kind enough to allow work to progress quickly and one free of algae they can then fill the holes that get formed during the storms.

time estimates? dunno tbh but west should open first then the lower half of the east will begin most likely with a rolling opening as is often the way.

SHOP & flakey opening hours
While the walls are shut the footfall at the shop is low so most of the opening atm is 9-1pm during the week but if any boats are going out early and need bait arrangements can be made if someone gets the skippers to contact dave or anyone else linked with the shop.
Bait orders as always via phoning the shop. There is no set up in shop to take online ordering and emails from website I monitor at my home not in shop.

I guess thats it for now, loads of waffle typed out with little to say šŸ™‚

’til next time

tues 14 update

West wall ATM is shut while dave gets some jetwashing done to either part open or fully open to the toilet block. With luck that should be by the weekend. Dave is also hoping to fit in some more night sessions on the west when its upto par for fishing (H&S rules etc)
on the fishing front I have little to report tbh as the walls over the last few weeks have been closed more than open. We now have a week or more of clear weather & it may be worth a test few throws with squid jigs but i suspect they have now moved out to deeper and calmer water.
There are still reports of bass being caught off the local beached but please remember we are now in that catch and release period.
Obviously now we are into the ting fest but quite often the flatties tick over through December so there should be a few plaice amongst the sole and flounders out there. As to other species well I am awaiting reports to confirm much more of anything.

A final note to those asking or wondering about night sessions. Dave will be looking to add more sessions but all will be on the west wall . Due to the lack of facilities on the east and the “still” grumbles from residents about anglers and their mess/general Nuisance we will focus nights on the west while ppl forget or calm down over unfortunate issues that resulted from mass numbers wanting to get onto the wall and target mackerel.

If I dont post here again this month I would like to wish all readers here a fantastic Christmas or at least the best they can manage. Im aware some dread the season and others dont celebrate for many reasons šŸ™‚ . So will add , have a great Christmas or a safe December.

Please remember , if no updates here, i’m either forgetful or there is very little going on.
Peace be with you all

its december

As we crawl towards the end of the year we finally start to see the whiting swamp the catch pics, there are a few squid about locally & FBook posts seem to indicate some decent sized ones further west towards Weymouth.
On the marina the weather finally getting to grips with more and more closure which means the dreaded alae has built and with continue at a faster pace cutting of sections of the walls that are safe to use.
The east wall is now basically 1-25 ish and the west extension now fully closed. Not sure how long we will be able to keep the west open thus the focus will stay on keeping part of the east open for as long as possible until the spring jet washing begins .
Bass are now catch and release with some confusing info on how long but the UK fisheries should be meeting this month to decide if there will be any changes to catch sizes etc.
cant think of anything else to add here so will sign off .

Squidely didley

while the weather holds the west wall will have extended hours this wed 24th and will remain open until 3am to allow some extra squidding time.
Forecast for the weekend still fluctuating so no night decision has yet been mad.
Best of the squid seem to be around dawn and sunset/twilight

24 hrs

well the story of 24 hours is very simple, squid rampaging the south coast off and inshore, gar swimming about in cluster bursts and some very nice bass to be had out there. Pout and chan whiting not much of an issue other than the rockling craig was made to endure on the FB page… all good out there on the marina atm

round up

Ive not masses to say but the squid i’d say are defo in with daytime and night catches although most are saying night is best and it does seem so. Still some great bass about on the beaches and walls with a decent 9.5lb catch today on the East for Dewan (see fb group for pics)\7 will upload a couple to the bass gallery in a while.
Mackerel and horse mac are still lingering although now the shoals have moved on there are still a fair few coming up on baits.
Seems for some the bass fishing off known marks are also having to contend with the high number of congers about ,again more activity on those at night & if you fancy a lump of slimy sea snake now is the time to target them but please remember congers are ok to take but the silver eels should be returned . Wile they are called silver eels they do come in many colours from silver through browns and green.
Finally a note about Gars, it looks like while clear and calm “yep they are in” and quite a high number of gars are curently being caught. P.S. they make great cod bait, some say decent bass bait also but am yet to be convinced.

wall opening this weekend

East 7 til 5pm except SAT with an extended opening til midnight to allow some squidding.
west FRI/SAT open all night
Over n out for today

New night info

As a tester Dave has decided to open the WEST WALL for one night session tester this Friday 5th November.
The EAST WALL will close at night as normal this weekend at 6pm and from MONDAY 8th BOTH WALLS will close at 5pm as a fixed winter time opening 7am til 5pm.
We are unable to open at night on the east wall due to temp lack of facilities that the marina I believe are looking into.

I’d post a catch report but have been out of the loop the last couple of days and other than someone catching a mackerel on the east the only other report ive seen or heard of was EELS & more EELS šŸ™‚

so opening EAST 7am -6pm up til Sunday will be 7am til 6pm
WEST opening Thur 7am-6pm/FRI 7am..open all night then close sat afternoon

Both walls from mon 8th will be 7am til 5pm unless said otherwise.
