Well I recon the title is fairly clear what I,m about too mention so I best get on with it.
Plenty of mackerel about on both walls yesterday with the west wall seeing the bigger rate of catching. Needless too say the numbers this weekend have seen a surge as people pile into the marina for the fish.
Over on the east yesterday afternoon on higher bays I did get too see 2 cracking fish one each for the dudes fishing their bay in a lovely sole caught b4 I had shown up and while chatting the 2nd dude matched the sole and some. Best plaice Ive seen on either wall this year may not say much but fish of that quality dont get thrown up out of the sea on the marina very often, a good length possibly 45-50cm and very plump, it will defo make good eating.
Needless too say the mackerel fairly much dominated the catches yesterday but I gather there were also bream on the east, yup, more than 2 over that side were baiting rather than feathering. oh, yes I often mock fathering but lest face it, we all have a go from time to time and other than good eating they are also a decent bait so I keep the ribbing at a lowish tone :).
Now, over on the west its fair too say the wall was busy yesterday, a couple of minor issues sorted out mid afternoon (helped by plenty of fish showing) but all in all most were happy though limited space on the wall.
West side the fish were there on & off most of the day with a slow up over the low tide rather than a stop too catches. Mid afternoon numbers thinned as people started too drift home on the lower tide, many had been there since the morning high mostly for them mackies.
about 5.30 ish I managed too get over onto the east wall for a look see but it wasnt too long before I got a call from Ali who had arrived too do the night shift informing me the west was again getting quite busy and the gate may need closing while we got things organised.
headed back too the West about 6.15 to indeed find the gate closed with a few wanting on the wall so was a case of take the wheels up too the tower for a fast look about and Let Ali know where the spaces were.
About this time we had 3 groups of 5 arrive as well as 3 lots of 3! 24 people all expecting too be sorted onto the extension but we had bodies already on there that had decided it was ok too erm just move over from where they were already put !
There was then 90 mins of sorta organised chaos as people were shuffled around too settle the numbers in to fish but… one dude simply would not listen too instruction and first tried too crash the 2 bays nearest the toilet block where someone was fishing, he was then removed from the lower and told too wait on the upper level.
Did he listen ? did he fk.. his next stunt was try fit himself on the half bay at the start of the extension where someone was already fishing.. again removed too upper level.
Minor issue then near the end of extension saw one group strongly advised where too cast their rods and blow me down , I turned around and there was the wandering dude again trying too muscle his way into an area that 5 were already fishing but looking too pack up. He had seen a gap & elected to move himself down too that bay !
The madness of it was this bloke jumped about picking where he felt was ok and actually tried pushing into 4 different bays were ppl were fishing already and effectively disrupted 12 that were fishing and 6 waiting patiently too be assigned somewhere too fish. 90 mins chaos due too one elderly dude simply not following clear instruction and holding up the process of settling people into bays too fish.
Mackerel were shoaling by this time BOTH sides of the extension and am grateful too a couple of regulars that prevented further risks of ppl fishing inside for the shoaling fish breaking the surface.
now, usually with the mackies near sunset there is a slow blend of Mackies mixing too and with horse mac. A bit like a balancing scale one goes down as the numbers of the other rises swapping daylight mackerel into evening/night horse mac.
Last night some sorta weird magic trick happened and so many fishing saw mackerel one moment followed my tons of horse mackerel, almost as if a switch had been flipped.
As the tide dropped from the high wall numbers thinned for a while as day anglers lacking lights packed for home and things eased number wise about 9.30pm with the next hour taken up my night anglers slowly drifting in thrugh the gate too set up in the free spaces.
Loads of mackies and horse mackerel but come 11.30 ish I was headed for home leaving Ali working the wall.
The morning tide also brought a large surge too both walls and early 7 too 11am was very busy.
Thats it from me for today . Im off too watch the footy as BTN play aston villa and thus until the next one I will bid you all ADIEU
