And just like that yesterday becomes the day after the blow and erm the day before the blow, and I say the day after very loosely because looking out of my window right now my usual wind indicator tree is barely moving prompting a closer look which reveals my trees lie ! yup they are deceiving buggers sometimes. A closer look at the bushes in the garden tells me that the wind is on the move and has a bit of northerly in it but will soon swing west again.
And why am I waffleing on about the wind ? other than for the sake of it ? because we do get people show up too fish a wall having NOT checked posts re opening. They show up see little too no waves or wind and often think the wall should open as it all looks ok as far as they can see.
Today will be one of those days, people are going too show up and see the apparent calm conditions and NOT factor in that we have too call the wall openings usually the day prior’s forecast and occasionally the weather people get it wrong and then ppl show up & call us mugs for not making the right call based on the info we had the night before. the reality is we have today wind speeds of 30mph up to 45mph today and its swinging NW/West/SW/West again etc its all over the shop and trust me if the wall was open and it shifted too the south it would be as rough as fk very fast and put people at risk. Likewise tomorrow the wind is hard on the west but any southerly shift will put anyone on the east at risk so both walls will stay shut and the above should give people an idea into the decision making that has too be made in advance on if either wall will be open … or not.
And on that note I turn my eye (so too speak) back to yesterday’s jaunt along the wall. I arrived at the east café yesterday too be greeted by the cafe’s black dog “pepsi” going bonkers as soon as I was spotted, or perhaps I can be heard from the carpark due too the bell I have on the quad. The side gate was already open for someones access already on the wall but there was no sign of the cafe owners spaniel which tbh is a bit unusual, It turned out she was half way down halfway down the wall near bay 29 ! OOPS🤣🤣🤣
And so, onto the wall I rolled. Things were fairly quiet, especially as there had been a post on the book of Face abut some early bass. No one one the first 12 bay! unusual with what seemed “Bassy” conditions. Moving onto 20 I had picked up that things were quite and most people were effectively using scratching rods and hoping for any sort of bite.
Water conditions after a couple of days of hard blowing (was gonna type hard blow but I realised some out there have funny minds and would thing “blow” on the wall hmmm)There didnt seem too be much weed in the water and the water colour wasnt too bad either and I would have thought that things should fish quite well. I bumped into Tommy for a chat and he sent me a pick of a bass he had recently caught. Now Tommy, If you read the blogs (i seem too think you do) please sent me some more details of your Bass, weight if u have it and what day caught would be enough, thanks.
All in all things were quiet but Nicks partner had caught a decent shad not too long prior too me getting there I also got a couple of updates on Bass that had been dropped and there were a couple of decent Mullet caught, one I believe pushed 4lb. While chatting with Nick and mocking his catch rate Vs his partner a small but colourful Gurnard was landed. yes Bernard was back and eating baits from what must be his fav spot in the water. Thankfully Bernard was pictured and returned too eat a few more baits.
A short chat with Chris H another wall regular this year put me straight on the 4lb’er which turned out too be a bass not mullet which made more sense and that he had indeed caught a mullet as well that was weighed at 1lb 8oz, not too shabby for a mid October day after a blow up. Other catches for Chris included a Conger and pouting. Amongst the 20 or so fishing yesterday I was also told that there were plenty of bites, many being micro species such as blennies, gobies and such and one angler tool me of a Bream that flashed past his bait as he was reeling in close too the wall which sorta indicates too me that the water temp is still over the normal for this time of year.
Yesterday the EAST was fenced a 30 as higher bays have some algae build up around the wires and after waves and rain had given the wall a good soaking it was decided too restrict the upper bays. Much in the same way as with the west wall atm, If its wet, the west will stay shut and similarly the upper sections of the east may also be closed off to anglers until things dry out.
Both walls are closed today and tomorrow(thurs/fri)
On SATURDAY the EAST will open as normal and Mark will do a wall check on the west with a view too opening the WEST for night fishing Saturday night.
SUNDAY, advanced forecast has now changed too NWest and if it remains so or similar we should be open on both walls.
Thats it for today, I could waffle some more but just this one time (not at band camp)I won’t. And thus, until the next one …… I will bid you all ADIEU

P.S. I forgot too mention that the sho[ will be closed Today and Tomorrow.
